MS Society Marathon

As soon as I had my place confirmed for the London Marathon, I knew I had to run it for charity. I started to think of which charities mean a lot to me and one stuck out more than any others – The MS Society.
My mum was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2017 and has suffered with the symptoms ever since. I knew that running for this charity would push me even more to raise as much as possible and to stay on track with my training. Seeing how much the illness affects my mum’s everyday life is something that hurts to see and I’d love for the money raised to help with finding a cure or ways to manage the awful symptoms.
With only a few weeks to go to the marathon, I was concerned I wasn’t going to hit my fundraising target of £1000. I was on around £300 then and was disappointed in myself that I hadn’t managed to raise more. As the marathon drew nearer, and, on race week, more donations started to come in – I was getting closer to my target.
I shared my JustGiving page as soon as I picked up my race number, when everything started to get a bit more real!! And again, the donations came flooding in. By the time I started the race, I’d thankfully hit my fundraising target and a massive weight was lifted off. I just had the small matter of running a marathon now!!
I had so many notifications of the donations when I was running and have now raised 50% more than my target which I’m so happy about. I saw my mum twice on the course when I was running and just seeing her made me want to complete the marathon even more as she was the reason I had chosen the MS Society.
I’m so so grateful to everyone who donated and supported me throughout my training and on race day. I really hope the money raised can help people like my mum to manage this awful illness.
